Understanding the use made of a green space to make it safer
Creating user test protocol
In order to conduct interviews in the field, we familiarize ourselves with the subject its history, the actors involved and their vision.
A scientific preliminary research on public spaces security enabled us to acquire some knowledge of previous tests, and their positive or negative feedbacks.
Then, our team met stakeholders to get some insights. As a result, a test protocol has been built based on the preliminary research and the first interviews. Finally, hypothesis have been formulated and objectives have been set to address the issue.
Meeting users of the Doyen Brus green space
The field study has been carried out both in the daytime and night time, at different hours. The purpose of the study was to observe the situation during busy and quieter periods.
By conducting non-participatory observations and user interviews, we have been able to collect 71 answers on spatial perception and spatial organization expectations. Data is analyzed adopting a quantitative approach with qualitative interactions specifications.
Results presentation and space co-arrangement workshop
Methodology, analysis, and results are presented to the different stakeholders.
Thirteen recommendations have been presented together with a benchmark to get inspiration from existing solutions. The obtained recommendations have been prioritized depending on their relevance. The purpose here was to find appropriate solutions, taking into account everybody’s requirements.

Throughout this project, we helped our client present and explain the user-centered approach implemented in this project to his partners.
The provided deliverable presents all the recommendations to follow to secure the space, taking into account all of the stakeholders’ requirements. It has been used during interactions between stakeholders to define the action plan and the tangible measures that will be taken as a result.
